God first.

God first.

Every single one of us has priorities, things that trump other things when push comes to shove. In fact, it is often in times of pleasure, pressure or pain that our priorities are seen most clearly. What do we value more than anything else? What would we go to any lengths for? What do we put first?

The human story could be told as a drama of misplaced priorities. We were designed to put God first over everything else, and in doing so every other priority in our lives would flourish more, not less. But we’ve all taken things that matter, good things, and turned them into god things, putting them in the slot that can only be truly filled by the One who made us. In doing so, everything from the first humans onward has unraveled. Poverty. Inequality. Injustice. Relational breakdown. Greed. Self-centeredness. Misplaced desire. Despair. Death. All these flow from and further fuel misplaced priorities.

What if it could be different? What if a group of people could begin to keep God first in their lives the way we were made to? That’s what we aim for at Redeemer. We want to order our lives around God, putting him first in everything we do and everything we are, so that every other part of our lives can flourish. We want to put God first together as a church, taking our direction from God and being what he wants us to be. We want to help Worthing, the surrounding areas and places in other nations get and keep God first. We must start with ourselves.

All of that will only happen if we see Jesus, really see him. If we get a vision of the God who has been made knowable in the person of Jesus. Get a vision of him in our minds and in our hearts that is so captivating, world shaking and shaping that nothing is the same again. That is how we want to start. With a vision of who God is, what he has done, and what life can be like as a result. A vision that completely re-orientates the people that we are. We would love you to join us on this journey to start to get and keep God first in our lives, and help others do the same.
