Our year in review.

Sep 2022 – Aug 2023

It's been two years since we moved in to the Guildbourne Centre, and God has been so faithful to us. Before the renovation work began, we had a vision that as we moved into this space, God would be with us, and in turn his blessing would be poured out. Our prayer was that the owners, the flats above us, and the businesses would be blessed as a result of us being in the centre, and that God's glory would flow out into the town. It has been great to begin to see this, even being recognised by the centre owners and the wider public.

Seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.
Jeremiah 29:7

We've seen growth over the last two years in our Sunday morning gatherings, with people moving into the area choosing to join hearts with us and with what God is doing here. We've seen people's lives changed as they have encountered God on the Alpha Course. We've seen people connecting into family life through our Groups: getting alongside one another in good times and bad, praying, reading our Bibles, and eating food! We've seen families and individuals loved and fed through the Foodbank. We've loved coming into the presence of God, experiencing the Holy Spirit's transforming power as we have gathered for our Prayer & Worship nights. Young and old have been served and shown the love of Jesus through Tots and Fernbank. We've been able to be generous with money we have been given to bless charities, people and churches in Worthing and the nations.

This annual report is designed to provide some visibility into what is happening in the life of the church, our finances and what God is doing in this family.

Kids & Youth.

Redeemer Kids

131 children attended at least once in the last 6 months.

As a church family, we not only want to serve parents in looking after their children on a Sunday morning, but we want to play our part in seeing a generation of kids encounter Jesus. It's not babysitting, it's leadership development!

Redeemer Youth

21 young people part of our youth groups.

We are passionate about raising youth who love God and love people. We long for them to encounter the transforming power, love and presence of Jesus and build community founded on the word of God, prayer, worship and a whole lot of fun!

Community projects.

Redeemer Tots

On Monday mornings during term time, we have run Redeemer Tots, a space for parents, carers, babies and toddlers to catch up and have fun! This has been a great opportunity to serve our town, welcoming up to 50 under 5s into our space each week, building relationships with parents, grandparents and carers, showing something of the love of Jesus and pointing them to other events that we have going on. If you can make some time on a Monday morning to come and have some fun and make some new friends, talk to Maddie Mokoena or someone else on the Tots team.

Foodbank

Over the last year, we have supplied nearly 3,000 people with emergency food, a total of 16,146kg of food, with 119 volunteers delivering this service. As well as normal deliveries, we delivered some Christmas cheer in the form of 120 hampers for individuals and families, with crackers, toys, chocolates and other essentials for the festive period. It's a joy to be able to serve our town in this way. Pray for our Foodbank, pray for the volunteers, pray for those who are on the receiving end.

Fernbank

Our visits to Fernbank Residential Home came about because of one member of the church coming into contact with one of their residents. Now, we have been regularly visiting Fernbank for the past two years, providing 12 Sunday services, and 50 visits to chat with residents. We're reliably informed that they eagerly anticipate each visit! In the past year, we have had the joy of seeing one elderly gentlemen come to know Jesus and proclaim him as Lord of his life. The team have done a fantastic job of building relationships with the residents and demonstrating their love for Jesus and their love for people.

English language classes

In the Autumn '22 term, Sue Haggar ran free weekly English classes with 8 students attending. These classes are back again this term after taking a break. We're excited to engage with people in the town that we would otherwise not get to speak to. Please pray for Sue Haggar and Malcolm Lyon, who will be leading the sessions.
Maybe there are other ways that we could serve our town as a church. Speak to one of the elders, or someone on the leadership team. We would love to hear what God has been stirring you about!

Outreach.

We want to be generous with what God gives us. Here are some of the ways we’ve been able to financially bless other organisations over this last year:
If we stretched our giving by 10% each month, we would have an extra £18.6k to spend on Outreach per year.

Nations.

We love that we are part of a wider church family that is impacting the nations and seeing the good news of Jesus shared in the regions beyond.

As part of Regions Beyond, as a church we have given regularly and in one-off offerings to enable churches to be planted, resourcing churches elsewhere to help leaders and others travel, and serve the poor. This includes one of our own, with Rodney taking a big step of faith in reducing his hours back in January to two days a week in order to develop a wider prophetic ministry amongst our churches in Regions Beyond, travelling around the UK and also to Dubai, Mexico and South Africa to serve the churches there.

We will have the opportunity again this year to play our part in the nations. That might be by going on a team somewhere, praying for our brothers and sisters, and giving generously to see the gospel advance.

In April we got to send a team of nine people out to visit the Grace City churches in the Philippines, spending time with Kim and Smile and their team. It was so valuable, and we look forward to welcoming them next summer at Gather '24.

Finances.

In everything, we want to put God first, ordering our lives around him, including our money. In a year marked with sharp inflation, mortgages rising, general cost of living higher than we have known, thank you so much for your generosity - being faith-filled, cheerful givers. God is faithful, so we can look forward with confidence.

If you are part of this church family and aren't currently giving, we encourage you to give regularly and generously. We are all on a journey in learning to steward what God has given us, holding our money lightly. For those regularly giving to what we are doing as a church, why not review your finances at the start of this new academic year. Whatever we give, let's do it joyfully and for God's glory!

Guildbourne refurbishment loans.

Some people generously loaned us money to help us complete the second phase of our building project. Because of the success of Rooms, we’ve been able to pay off a large amount of these early. You can see below the original loan amount, and what remains to be paid off.

I am grateful to God to be part of this family, who give and serve so generously, wanting to pursue God and his glory. Let's continue this journey this year as a family on mission together.
